Why neurodivergent relationships are difficult and yet beautiful

Communication and care look different when a person is neurodivergent. Extremely loyal with deep emotions means decades later they care just as much even if there has been no communication. But how those are expressed will look different. Someone with autism or ADHD for example needs clear direct communication, grace during overloads, and a good understanding of different needs.

At times, it might feel like they are ignoring you. But they may be overwhelmed, overstimulated, or processing.

Remember love isn’t measured by how it’s shown but by the intention behind it.

Partnerships from friends and coworkers to family and spouses look more like this:

  • Direct, honest conversations
  • Respect for routines
  • Shared problem-solving
  • Assuming positive intent

A neurodivergent brain comes with a different way of processing.

Different nervous systems but you’re on the same team.
